Dolphin Allies

About the Program

What is the Dolphin Allies program?

The Dolphin Allies program seeks to support the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community at Jacksonville University.  Dolphin Allies is a group of individuals at Jacksonville University who, through their visible support of LGBT people, will create a supportive and compassionate environment for the LGBT community.

The purpose of Dolphin Allies is to create a network of allies for LGBT people, and by doing so, provide a more supportive, safe University community.  To that end, the Dolphin Allies program provides safe places, empathic allies and visible support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.

Dolphin Allies agree to display a placard on their door (see an image of the placard below), signifying to the Jacksonville University community that the person who works or lives behind that door is supportive of LGBT issues.  The Dolphin Ally placard defines that space as confidential and safe.  LGBT people and allies will find a supportive, inclusive, and friendly environment wherever a Dolphin Ally placard is displayed.

How can I become a Dolphin Ally?

Any member of the Jacksonville University community can become a Dolphin Ally.  To be a Dolphin Ally, you must be willing to provide a supportive environment for LGBT people.  Individuals interested in becoming a Dolphin Ally must attend a one-hour workshop geared towards preparing individuals to be a supportive resource for LGBT people. If you would like to attend a workshop, please register online.
